How to Prepare a Robotic Linkage Drawing for an RFQ
For a connecting rod or joint assembly, define the two end connections and the geometry between them. A short drawing-based brief can start the enquiry even when some operating values are still unknown.
Define the assembly you want quoted
State whether the enquiry covers a catalogue linkage, a connecting rod without end joints, individual end components or a complete assembled item. Mark supplied-by-customer parts separately. Give the drawing reference and revision, and identify which dimensions are fixed.
Use End A and End B consistently across the drawing, parts list and enquiry. If the ends differ, show both instead of assuming one view defines the other.
Record the end interfaces and centre distance
- End A / End B: pin or bore dimensions, thread callout, male or female connection, thread hand and mating component.
- Assembly geometry: joint-centre distance, reference position, adjustment range and the required installation envelope.
- Locking and assembly: locking method, specified fasteners, supplied parts and any assembly sequence restrictions.
- Movement: operating range, tilt or misalignment space, surrounding clearances and potential interference.
Rod ends can have different thread configurations. Identify size, pitch and hand rather than copying only the bearing bore into the thread field. Use the applicable drawing for the exact item.
Explain what the linkage must do
Name the robotic joint or connection and describe its motion. Provide normal and peak loads with directions and units, including reversals or shocks where relevant. Add operating temperature, exposure and maintenance constraints.
If play, starting torque or a durability target matters, include the test conditions and acceptance requirement. Mark values that are estimates or not yet defined. A measured prototype dimension should remain identifiable as a sample measurement, separate from the approved drawing requirement.

Send a readable reference, then agree the review scope
Use a readable PDF or image preview showing dimensions, notes and revision. Discuss confidentiality before sending restricted or third-party drawings. For native CAD or large files, agree a transfer method and required file format.
The website form does not accept attachments. Select “I need a custom part or assembly” in the enquiry form, then email supporting files to [email protected] using the same project reference. No complete set of engineering values is required to make first contact.
Common questions
Can I begin with a sample rather than an approved drawing?
Yes, start with clear photographs, named measurements and a description of the connection. Identify the sample and its condition; drawing, tolerances and acceptance requirements still need agreement before final supply confirmation.
Can an LSANG catalogue item be the starting point?
Yes. Keep the complete LSANG designation and compare the listed geometry with your required interfaces. If your centre distance or connections differ, identify those differences in the enquiry.
